Golden Butter Brioche

This Golden Butter Brioche is irresistibly soft, rich, and fluffy with a delicate buttery flavor. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon treat, each slice is light, tender, and delicious served with jam, honey, or simply on its own.

Ingredients

  • 500 g (4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 7 g (2¼ tsp) instant yeast
  • 50 g (¼ cup) sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 120 ml (½ cup) warm milk
  • 170 g (¾ cup) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add eggs and warm milk. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the softened butter, a little at a time, kneading well after each addition.
  5. Continue kneading until the dough is silky and elastic.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1½–2 hours, or until doubled.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or small rolls.
  8. Place in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise again for 45–60 minutes.
  9. Brush with the egg wash.
  10. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let cool before slicing.

Tips

  • Use room-temperature ingredients for the best texture.
  • Chill the dough for 1 hour after the first rise if it’s too soft to handle.
  • Delicious with jam, butter, honey, or Nutella.
