AUTHENTIC GERMAN FRIKADELLEN BURGER WITH CARAMELIZED ONIONS AND MUSTARD SAUCE

Ingredients

Burger Patties

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Caramelized Onions

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp brown sugar

Mustard Sauce

  • 3 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp honey

Assembly

  • 4 brioche burger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • Pickle slices

Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, grated onion, egg, breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Step 2

Mix gently until combined and shape into 4 thick patties.

Step 3

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned and cooked through.

Step 4

Meanwhile, melt butter in another pan. Add sliced onions and brown sugar.

Step 5

Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft, golden, and caramelized.

Step 6

In a small bowl, whisk together mustard, mayonnaise, and honey to make the sauce.

Step 7

Toast the brioche buns until lightly golden.

Step 8

Spread mustard sauce on both halves of each bun.

Step 9

Layer lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, the beef patty, and a generous amount of caramelized onions.

Step 10

Close the burgers and serve immediately with fries or potato wedges.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a slice of Swiss cheese.
  • Use freshly ground beef for the juiciest burger.
